“Everybody Loves Opal” -Opal lives in a mansion at the edge of the dump, and collects whatever she can in her little red wagon. When three con men meet her, they decide that Opal needs insurance…..lots of it, with three dastardly benefactors to plot her demise.
Concert – Friday, August 30, 7 pm, Old Courthouse on the Square, Blairsville ^
“Nearly Normal String Band” will perform folk music and old favorites.
Concert – Friday, August 30, 7 pm at John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC ^
Lorinda Jones & Sue Richards will play. Lorinda plays a wide range of instruments including piano, oboe, dulcimer, tin whistle, psaltery, zither, autoharp, and guitar, as well as Celtic harp. Sue has won the American National Scottish Harp Championship four times.
Farmers Market – Saturday, August 31, 7 am – 1 pm, Farmer’s Market, Blairsville
“Hope House Watermelon Day” – Growers and artisans will sell their goods at the Union County Farmer’s Market – a local market with items from artisans, beekeepers, bakers, potters, painters, and lots of good things to eat. Fresh produce right out of the fields.
Festival – Saturday & Sunday, August 31 & September 1, 9 am – 5 pm, Mountain Life Museum, Blairsville
Every Labor Day weekend, the Heritage Festival celebrates the history and mountain culture of Union County in downtown Blairsville, Georgia. Mountain arts/crafts, music, living history activities, demonstrations on quilting, spinning, basket making, chair caning, farm animals, and gold panning, along with activities for children. The activities will be centered round the restored 1861 Payne family log cabin, the Mauney family barn, the Duncan family cabin, and other structures from Union County’s past.
Art & Craft Show – Saturday, August 31, 9 am – 5 pm, Downtown Market, Blue Ridge
Pic-Nic-Nac Art & Craft Show – The Downtown Market is partnering with Good Samaritans of Fannin County to host a one day art and craft festival. The Pic-Nic-Nac is like the weekly Downtown Market – only bigger with more vendors!
Grape Stomp Fest – Saturday, August 31, 11 am – 6 pm, Paradise Hills Winery Resort, Blairsville *
Join us for a day full of fun and laughter as we celebrate our annual Grape Stomp Fest! We will have live music all day, local vendors, a kids tent, and our Lucy-look-a-like contest. Grape stomping will be at 2 & 4 PM with souvenir papers. There will also be a BBQ lunch for sale.
Cruise-In – Saturday, August 31, 11 am – 3 pm, Downtown Blue Ridge
Come show off your car, motorcycle, or trike at the Labor Day Weekend Cruise-In. No cost to enter. All parking on pavement. Rain or shine event. Concessions available. Prizes for “Peoples’ Choice” favorite vehicle.
Canvas Class Lighthouse – Saturday, August 31, 4 – 6 pm, Kiln & Crafts, Blue Ridge *
Come paint a serene lighthouse scene on canvas.
Food – Saturday, August 31, 4 – 7 pm, The Cook’s Farm, Morganton *
Low Country Boil at The Cook’s Farm w/ Grumpy Old Men Brewing – an afternoon of local beer, local sausage, and seafood from the Southern Atlantic Coast and a bit from the Gulf of Mexico. The food will be from Cucina Rustica to get everyone filled up on a fusion of Low Country and Cajun fun.
Music – Saturday, August 31, 7:00 – 8:30 pm, Hiawassee Town Square, Hiawassee ^
Music on the Square will feature the live music of Bill Rinaldo’s Veteran’s Tribute. Free hot dogs and chocolate chip cookies for the audience.
Concert – Saturday, August 31, 7 – 9 pm, Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, Hiawassee *
Sawyer Brown and Exile will perform. Founded in 1981, the band celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, having played more than 4000 shows over the course of those years, logging mileage well into the seven figures.
Music & Art– Saturday, August 31, 7:00 – 10:30 pm, Goldhagen Art Studio, Hayesville, NC *
Hot Summer Nights is a fabulous evening of entertainment featuring a live performance by Monica Spears. While relaxing and surrounded by great music, you will be dazzled by the internationally acclaimed glass blowing artist David Goldhagen as he demonstrates the fine art of glass blowing. Reservations highly recommended.
