Beautiful flowers are blooming in our garden. Even though many events have been postponed or canceled due to COVID-19, one can still enjoy nature in the mountains. It is best to check before attending any of the events listed below.
Craft Class (Beginner Level) – Mondays, May 3 & May 10 (a two-week class), 6 – 7 pm, Blue Heaven Studio, Blue Ridge (954-461-7535) *
Learn pattern application, base coating, stippling, linework, floating and more. Students will need many of these skills to register for other classes. You can use your surface, trays, shelves, apron, pillows or whatever appeals to you.
Plein Air Painting – Thursday, May 6, 2 – 5 pm, ArtWorks, Hiawassee (706-896-0932)
Meet at ArtWorks and leave at 2 pm for a local scenic spot to spend a fun afternoon painting with other artists. All media welcome. Bring supplies and equipment you can carry. Some walking on uneven ground may be required. Remember to bring some water and a hat.
Shopping – Thursday, May 6, 5 – 8 pm, downtown Blairsville
Every first Thursday of the month is “Shop Late Thursday” in Downtown Blairsville! Participating Downtown Blairsville businesses will be open additional hours from 5pm – 8pm and will feature deals, discounts and other exciting offers!
Music – Thursday, May 6, 6 pm to dusk, Horseshoe Bend Park in Mineral Bluff (706-632-5680)
“Pickin’ in Horseshoe Bend” – everyone is welcome to pick and/or listen. Music Jams start around 6:00 PM. Bring a lawn chair, your instrument, your picnic dinner, and enjoy. Weather permitting.

“’Til Beth Do Us Part” – In this side-splitting comic romp about marriage, career-driven Suzannah Halasyden needs a lot more help on the home front than she’s getting from her husband, Gibby. Lately, nurturing his marriage of twenty-seven years hasn’t been the highest priority for Gibby, but pretty soon he’ll wish it had been. Rated PG-13
Golf Tournament – Friday, May 7, 9 am – 4 pm, Butternut Creek Golf Course, Blairsville *
This Tournament, held on scenic Butternut Creek Golf Course, benefits our scholarship fund for local students. It’s literally a hole in one–raise money for student scholarships while playing golf in one of the most beautiful Georgia mountain golf courses. Breakfast and lunch to be served in addition to snacks. Door prizes, raffles, and amazing swag bags as well as signature Tee Gift.

Hiawassee Night Market is a family-friendly, open-air night artist & artisan market featuring fresh produce, food trucks, games, and live music. The market will be filled with excitement and fun. Night Market is the monthly destination for outdoor dining, shopping, and entertainment.
Plant Sale – Saturday, May 8, 8 am – 2 pm, Union County Farmer’s Market, Blairsville
Are you ready to get out in your garden, feel the soil between your fingers and breathe in our fresh mountain air? The Towns-Union Master Gardeners (TUMGA) are (and have been) growing a wide assortment of plants locally just for you! The outstanding assortment of plants grown right here for our gardens, i.e., annuals, native flowering plants, perennials, trees/shrubs, house plants, herbs, vegetables including heirloom tomatoes and houseplants. The quantities will be limited so try to come early. Funds raised from this sale help us support our local projects making Towns & Union Counties more beautiful and support our youth projects for our future gardeners.

Barn Quilt Workshop – Saturday, May 8, 11 am – 2 pm, The Arts Center, Blue Ridge (706-632-2144) *
“Painting a Barn Quilt on Wood” – In this class, students will discover the Appalachian history of Barn Quilts painted on wood. This movement created Barn Quilt Trails where one can drive through a designated area and see multiple barn quilt patterns on sides of barns throughout the country. The student will learn heritage quilt patterns and create a quilt pattern based on a modern technique for painting a barn quilt with chalk mineral paint. The Instructor will demonstrate how to create the quilt square using paints, stains, waxes and sealers. The student will complete a wooden 16X16 quilt square.
